A booking platform with one operator behind it

KomaniLake.pl exists because booking a boat in Northern Albania used to mean a WhatsApp message to a number a stranger gave you, and hoping. We wanted the trip to stay local and the booking to work like any other part of your holiday.

The partnership

Wild Tour Albania runs every trip on this site

We are not a marketplace with a hundred suppliers of unknown quality. Every experience listed here is operated by Wild Tour Albania, a licensed tour operator based in Shkodër, two hours from the Koman pier.

Their guides grew up in these valleys. Their captains have been working the lake since before it had a tourist season. When something goes wrong on a mountain at four in the afternoon, the person answering the phone is forty minutes away, not in another country.

Our job is the part they were never going to enjoy: a website that loads, a booking system that confirms instantly, honest descriptions of how hard each day actually is, and a card payment that clears before you get on a plane.

Mission

Make the north easy to reach without making it generic

Komani Lake can absorb a lot more visitors than it currently gets, but only if they arrive in small groups, spend money in the villages they pass through, and are told the truth about what a day on the water involves.

So we cap group sizes below what the boats can legally carry, we pay our operator the full rate rather than squeezing the margin, and we would rather lose a booking than sell someone an eight-day mountain crossing they are not fit for.

Vision

The reference point for Northern Albania

We want KomaniLake.pl to be the page you land on when you first hear the words "Komani Lake" — not because we bought the traffic, but because the ferry timetable is right, the water temperatures are right, and the photographs are of the place rather than a stock library.

Bookings pay for that. But the guide stays free, and it stays accurate whether you book with us or turn up at the pier with cash.

Sustainability

Small boats, local beds, no rubbish left behind

Group size. The kayak trip caps at ten paddlers and the hiking route at twelve with a second guide above eight. Smaller groups do less damage to trails and mean guests actually talk to their hosts.

Where the money goes. Guesthouses on the multi-day routes are family-run, paid directly, and rotated so that no single household carries the whole season. Lunch stops are village restaurants, not a catering contract.

Waste. Every boat carries a bag out. Guides collect on the Valbona pass as a matter of routine, and we buy the drinking water in bulk containers rather than handing out single-use bottles.

Season. We actively steer travellers to May, June, September and October — better for them, and it spreads the load off the two weeks in August when the beaches at Shala fill up.

Why choose us

Eight reasons people book here

Local experts

Every experience is designed and run by people who live in Shkodër and the Alps, not by a call centre.

Verified experiences

We check the licence, the insurance and the boat before an experience goes on the site — and we ride it ourselves.

Secure online booking

Payment by Stripe with 3D Secure. Apple Pay, Google Pay and all major cards, in euros.

Small groups

Kayaking maxes out at 10, the private boat at 7, the eight-day hike at 12 with two guides above eight.

Instant confirmation

A real booking reference in your inbox within a minute — not a request that somebody answers on Tuesday.

Professional guides

Licensed mountain and paddlesport guides, English-speaking, with first aid certification kept current.
